ASMITA League 2026 Inaugurated in Leh, Promotes Women’s Participation in Winter Sports

Leh, March 24: The ASMITA League 2026 was successfully inaugurated at the NDS Ice Hockey Stadium in Leh, marking a major step towards promoting women’s participation in winter sports in Ladakh.

The opening ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Moses Kunzang.


Teams from Leh and Kargil Compete

The tournament features competitive participation from:

  • 4 teams from Leh district
  • 2 teams from Kargil district

In addition to ice hockey, the league also includes:

  • Figure Skating
  • Speed Skating

adding diversity and excitement to the event.


Dignitaries Attend Opening Ceremony

Among the dignitaries present were:

  • Dr Zulfiqar Ali, CCF
  • Tsering Tashi
  • Members of the Ice Hockey Association of Ladakh

Match Highlights: Lalok Dominates, Kharu Falcons Win Narrowly

In the matches played on the opening day:

  • Kharu Falcons defeated Sham Eagles with a narrow 1–0 victory
  • Lalok dominated SECMOL, securing a convincing 6–1 win

Upcoming matches include:

  • Kharu Falcons vs Lalok (3:00 PM)
  • SECMOL vs Shakar Chiktan Queens (5:00 PM)

Boost to Women’s Winter Sports in Ladakh

The ASMITA League aims to:

  • Encourage women’s participation in ice sports
  • Identify and nurture local talent
  • Promote winter sports culture in the region
