AI at the Heart of India’s Development: PM Modi’s Talks with Tech Pioneer Gates

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and philanthropist Bill Gates engaged in a profound discussion on the transformative potential of technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The Prime Minister highlighted the pivotal role AI played during the 2023 G20 Summit and shared insights into its application in real-time language translation at the Kashi Tamil Sangamam event. He also discussed the integration of AI in the NaMo App, which has significantly enhanced user engagement and outreach.

Reflecting on India’s historical journey through industrial revolutions, PM Modi remarked, “…Historically, during the first and second industrial revolutions we lagged behind because we were a colony. Now, in the midst of a fourth industrial revolution, the digital element is at its core. I am confident that India will gain a lot in this.” His statement underscores India’s readiness to embrace the digital era and leverage it for economic and social advancement.

The Prime Minister also shared a light-hearted perspective on the ubiquity of AI in daily life, saying, “…AI is very important. Sometimes, I jokingly say that in our country, we call our mother ‘Aai’. Now I say that when a child is born, he says ‘Aai’ as well as AI as children have become so advanced.” This comment reflects the deep integration of AI into the fabric of society, where it’s becoming as familiar as household terms.

The conversation between these two influential figures marks a significant acknowledgment of AI’s growing importance in global development and India’s commitment to being at the forefront of this technological wave.
