Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his pleasure over the recent increase in Ramsar Sites in India, highlighting the country’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental preservation. This increase, which includes three new sites from Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh, marks a significant step in India’s efforts to protect its wetland ecosystems.

In a statement responding to a post by Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, Prime Minister Modi praised the addition of these new Ramsar Sites, underscoring the importance of these wetlands in maintaining ecological balance and supporting biodiversity.

“Indeed a joyous occasion for India that our Ramsar sites number rises, indicating the priority we accord to sustainable development as well as living in harmony with nature,” Modi stated. He extended special compliments to the people of Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh, acknowledging their role in enhancing India’s environmental conservation efforts.

The Ramsar Convention, an international treaty aimed at the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands, now includes the newly designated sites from Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh, adding to India’s growing list of protected wetland areas. These additions reflect the country’s ongoing dedication to environmental stewardship and its strategic approach to preserving natural resources.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed India’s commitment to leading global efforts in environmental conservation. “We will continue to be at the forefront of such efforts in the times to come,” he assured, emphasizing the government’s resolve to uphold and expand its environmental initiatives.

The recognition of these new Ramsar Sites highlights the collaborative efforts between state and central governments, and serves as an encouragement for continued progress in environmental conservation and sustainable development across India.
